Decennial insurance
Get decennial insurance in France
Decennial insurance (assurance décennale) covers your work for ten years after handover. In France it is a legal obligation for building companies, and it has to be in place before the job starts.
The basics
What you need to know
-
What it covers
Damage that threatens the solidity of the building or makes it unfit for use, for ten years after the work is accepted.
-
Who needs it
Any company carrying out construction or renovation work in France, whatever its size, including companies established abroad.
-
When clients ask for it
Before signing. Your insurance details must appear on your quotes and invoices, and working without cover is an offence under French law.
How we help
A file insurers can say yes to
Insurers look closely at new companies, companies from abroad and technical trades such as waterproofing, heat pumps or solar. A clear, complete file makes the difference.
-
We review your activity
We list the exact trades to declare. Work that is not declared is not covered.
-
We prepare the file
Experience, diplomas, references, company documents and expected turnover, presented the way insurers expect.
-
We follow it through
We help you approach insurers suited to your trade, compare their answers and get your certificate.
Your file
What insurers usually ask for
You do not need to have everything on day one. We tell you what is missing and how to get it.
- Company registration documents
- Proof of experience or diplomas for each trade
- A description of the work you carry out
- Expected turnover and number of staff
- Your claims history, if you have one
FAQ
Common questions
Yours is not in the list? Call us, it takes two minutes.
Is decennial insurance the same as public liability?
No. Public liability (RC Pro) covers damage caused while the work is going on. Decennial insurance covers serious defects that appear after handover. Most building companies need both.
When do I need to have it?
Before the site opens. The cover must be active on the day the work begins.
Do I need it to become RGE?
Yes. A valid decennial certificate for the work concerned is part of every RGE application. We can run both files side by side.
What if my activity changes?
A new trade has to be declared to your insurer before you start it. We help you update your contract when your company evolves.
